Overcome the green transport challenges: electric vehicle

The number of usage in electric car or EV car is increasing, this is great as it  help to maintain the balance of environment and also they together to walk along the government to achieve the idea of world with sustainable transport. However, to achieve this there are lot of challenge that will counter as this is  a new innovation with  a lot of improvement needed.

Some regions are growing faster than others. For example, China, the world’s largest electric car market, has formulated a national policy around the technology due to environmental issues. China’s share of the electric vehicle market is expected to reach 57% in 2019, up from 55.5% in 2018, according to Frost & Sullivan. “If you walk out of the airport in Shenzhen, China, for example, 90% of all taxis are electric vehicles. By 2021, which is not far away, every single bus in China will need to be pure electric,” Moxey said. “China can steer the direction quite easily through government legislation. That’s not so easy to do in Europe or North America.”

Let’s see how to overcome the major challenge which is the limited range and shortage of station.

LIMITED RANGE

·       Battery swapping

Battery swapping is a strategy to avoid range anxiety that allows electric cars to extend their range through a battery switch station. At the station, the depleted battery is swapped for fully charged battery in about the same time that it takes to fill up a car with gasoline. Battery swapping is common in warehouses using electric forklift trucks.

·        Chevrolet Volt

General Motors describes the Chevrolet Volt as an electric vehicle equipped with a "range extending" gasoline-powered internal combustion engine (ICE) as a genset and therefore dubbed the Volt an "Extended Range Electric Vehicle" or E-REV. When the battery capacity drops below a pre-established threshold from full charge, the vehicles enters charge-sustaining mode, and the Volt's control system will select the most optimally efficient drive mode to improve performance and boost high-speed efficiency. The range in EV mode of the second-generation Volt was increased to 53 mi (85 km).

SHORTAGE OF CHARGING STATION

There are increase in number of electric vehicle , however the number of charging station is still not increasing. That is why government need to take part and build more charging station especially within area with a high number of electric car. For example in US The International Council on Clean Transportation, in a report released Tuesday morning, said $1.3 billion would be needed to make the necessary additions to home charging for electric vehicles and $940 million for workplace and public charging for the 100 U.S. metro areas with the highest populations.

POD POINT - ELECTRIC CAR HOME CHARGING

You can charge an electric car at home using a dedicated home charging point (a standard 3 pin plug with an EVSE cable should only be used as a last resort).

  • Electric car drivers choose a home charging point to benefit from faster charging speeds and built-in safety features.
  • Charging an electric car is like charging a mobile phone - plug in overnight and top up during the day.
  • fully installed home charging point costs from £449 with the government OLEV grant.
  • Home charging points charge your car at 3.7kW or 7kW giving about 15-30 miles of range per hour of charge (compared to 2.3kW from a 3 pin plug which provides up to 8 miles of range per hour).

Partnering with Tesla to Construct the Largest Contiguous Electric Vehicle Charging System in the World

“It’s one thing to build one Supercharger site, but it’s a totally different thing to build 100 at a time, or have 40 or 50 in construction at any given time. Black & Veatch brought an ability to be able to expand rapidly, bring on the resources necessary and also manage the construction of a complex project like that – all concurrently.”
